The marina is hopping with shopping! Just a short drive or long walk up the beach and you are in the harbor. The wonderful sailboats make for quite a sunset view for an evening stroll. Looking for a sweatshirt or fun seashell necklace, this is the place to get it. And the fish and chips just can’t be beat. The crisp fish is bigger than your hand and served hot off the fryer. Top it off with some home made icecream from the shop accross the way and you have had yourself the perfect evening. We go back to Oceanside time and time again and have never visited a Beach Front Only home without taking in the marina. Try it out for yourself!
Ruby’s is a must! Every stay in a Beach Front Only home has atleast one breakfast and one dinner waiting for us at Ruby’s cafe. This is an adventure every time. The board walk pier is an experience in itself with local fisherman pulling their catch right out of the water before your very eyes! You can see sea creatures like star fish and muscles growing on the pillars below. And most times we have even seen seals looking for a meal of their own.
The main attraction, of course, is Ruby’s. This is a 50’s style diner with much STYLE, I must say. It is a kid friendly atmosphere with kid menu’s that fold into classic cars that are adorned with decals galore! Milk shakes are a must have and the burgers are bursting with flavor. You must check it out both morning and evening as the breakfasts are as good as the burgers and salads. Hope your family enjoys it as much as ours!
Who needs a restaurant when there is a awesome kitchen at your finger tips. For my family having a kitchen at the sight in which we stay is awesome with the kids. I have a special needs child (autism) so going out is a peice of work. In Oceanside there is two grocery stores very close by. You can make whatever you want, however you want, when you want it. What gets better than that. For stuff to do: you have a awesome bed to take naps in, awesome sand to play and build sand castles in, not crowed beaches to fly kites on or play sand games in. Why go anywhere. If you have to adventure out there is a mall that has just about everything right aorund it, if you have kids take a day and go to Sea World. About 8 miles from the ocean off Highway 76 lies Guajome Lake Regional Park. The lake has ducks and geese so bring some bread! You can hike through the trails into the peaceful wilderness listening to the birds and frogs. If you bring your bike you can bike on the trails which zig zag and criss cross the entire Regional Park. There are places to picnic and camp, a jungle gym, clean bathrooms and wide open grassy areas where you can sit under a tree and enjoy the afternoon.
When asked what our favorite attraction while staying at our Beach Front Only home, we must say without a doubt, it is the AMAZING beach! While sitting in our deck spa and overlooking the beach and water, we often watched pods of dolphin bringing in the sunset. See crabs can be found just a small shovel blow the surface where the water breaks back. The beach isn’t over crowded because it is a private beach. We always felt safe leaving out our boogie boards and goggles while breaking to the house for lunch. Our kids caught their first waves on this beach and we caught a new spirit while here. Life’s stresses were pulled from us as the waters receeded and didn’t return until we returned home! There is no beach like it and leaving this beach wasn’t necessary. It was all we needed and more!
If you want authentic Mexican food while visiting Oceanside, you have to eat at Anita’s Restaurant. Their fajitas and carne asada are out of this world! There are two locations in Oceanside, one on Coast Highway and one near the mall.
The best grocery store that we found was the Albertsons in Carlsbad which was 2 miles down the freeway. They had a great selection of everything. We also ate at a great restaurant, I believe the name was Pasta Mia. Pricing was very reasonable, the service was good and the food was excellant.

A beautiful way to connect to your spirituality is to visit the Prince of Peace monastery in Oceanside at 5:00 pm for Vespars.
It is purched on a big hill and 10 of us went to listen to the monks chant. Even if you are not Catholic, you will feel peace in your heart.The vespars last for 1/2 hour and the sun shines thru the windows of the church.
We all went down to Oceanside pier afterwards and watched the sunset and had a nice dinner on the dock.

The stay was amazing! There were dolphins right outside the window every morning.
If you need a chiropractic adjustment, a massage or maybe some acupuncture, the place to go is Encinitas Acupuncture and Massage. Donna is the best masseuse and is an expert at acupuncture. Mark is the best chiropractor – safe and gentle! When you’re finished being pampered you can walk across the street and have a latte or cappucino at E Street Cafe.
Our stay at 950 Neptune last May was truly amazing. We were very pleased with the house. Everyone had their own space. It was the best family vacation so far.

I just need a place to rest!! “Famous words from my husband and childrens”. We travel alot and stay in the fanciest of places, shop till we drop, work all those long crazy hours and some of us still go to school. Leaving us not alot of time to just be a family. We just need to re-group. Oceanside has been a place of re-grouping for us all. We can cook in the privacy of our own home, shop at the grocery store just a few blocks away, lounge outside on a private deck, walk on a quiet uncrowded beach, listen to the waves while watching them crash against the sand and rocks, build sandcastles, read, relax, play games and laugh. Now how could you ask for more. But, if you need more after a few days were minutes from LaJolla and there one of a kind shops. Eatting the finest seafood at Georges Restraunt. While watching the sunset from the deck. All this gives us a chance as a family to reconnect and stay close.
Oceanside is a beatiful getaway beach font city. Our trip was very simple and easy…shop at Vons over there, BBQ it on balcony, enjoy the wind, sea breeze and sunshine. Since we are there, the surrounding is so heaven-like which we didn’t want to go anywhere else. On the day we are leaving, we has a chance to to dine at one Chinese Buffet near by. It is located right on the Oceanside blvd. and S.Coast HWY behide the Church Chicken. This is only a few Asian restaurant near by our place before we hit the freeway 5. The price was unbelievable cheap –$6.99 all day lunch or dinner!!! We have to check their sign again just to make sure it was right $6.99 Dinner per person. After talking to the owner, she told be that it is a grand openning price. They just opened about one month (this is back in May of 2007). The staff was real friendly, but the food was not that great! Well…if you looking to try an afordable Asian food, this is the place. Mostly they have the common dishes such as spring roll, Vegetable, Soup, Salad, Kunpow Chicken and some other Chinese menu. Nothing fancy, but it get you stomach full.
Upon our stay, we walked to the Oceanside pier. It was quite a distance! We bought our fishing equipment to do some surf-fishing. We have heard Oceanside is a good place to fish, so we decide to give it a try. You don’t need a fishing license for fishing on the pier. Good time to fish is early in the morning. I saw many people caught many large size (<1 lb) spot fin crocker fish using mussle. They a bait shop locating on the pier as well in case you need to buy any bait. Mostly those who came are regular people that live near by. They get so good at catching fish here. You can always ask them for the tips how to catch some. We caught some fish as well. It was quite enjoyable time.
Afterward ward we head back and enjoy our time on the sand. Water temperature is cool thoughout the year. Oceanside beach is very nice for swiming and surfing. The beach is cleaner and whiter than L.A. county. Nice long shallow beach. Great for the kid on the sand.
Just in case you plan to visit San Diego during your stay, I highly recomment you visiting the Colonado city. You have to cross a long tall bridge to get there. It is a cool little old town full of many muti-millions dollar houses. Over there they have a famous hotel Colonado which rumor said it has a ghost there. Well, if you see the hotel you will think so too! I heard they have a $200 person buffet here. Well..$6.99 dinner was good enough for me! lol.
For the dessert, I highly recommend “Extraordinary” restaurant in San Diego. I don’t have an address for you but you can ask 411 to find out where they are. I am sure you will be surprise at how amanzing this little restaurant is. Just the name said, they are serving extraordinary dessert, in an extraordinary place. Great for couple on the date.

Beaches are the number one attraction in San Diego, not to mention they provide countless hours of entertainment for your family for FREE! However, if you’re staying for a full week, I recommend seeing some key attractions as well. To avoid crowds, visit the San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park, the Birch Aquarium, and Legoland California on Monday – Wednesday. To save money on this itinerary, purchase 3 day Go San Diego Cards at http://www.gosandiegocard.com. With the card, you can do as many attractions in the city as you can fit into your schedule! On the other days, relax at your vacation rental with a good book or play with the kids at the beach. Don’t forget to wonder into downtown Encintas for lunch or dinner; it’s one of the best towns in San Diego!
I stayed in 1084 neptune in encinitas for 8 days. This place is truely amazing with spacious, clean accomidations, breath takeing views of beach especially you have to watch “sunset”. I have took over 100 pics of the sunset. What I really like about encinitas is that although its known for its beaches it still has feel of small town where there is mom and pop shops, people are friendly, proximity to freeways and to san diego.
Wow!! Oceanside, California! This place is difficult to describe with words, but I will give it a go! Fun in the sun, Dolphins every morning outside our window it was an amazing experience. The stay was spectacular! Clean, comfortable, I felt as if my own home had been transported 100 yards away from the beach. I even had the opportunity to watch my favorite sporting events on a massive big screen TV in the cozy living area while still able to watch the sun set over the ocean waves from the gigantic beach front windows! Warm waters! Cool breezes! outdoor recreation to the extreme, but only a quick walk to the best restaurants and night life around! Wow! I am not even doing this place justice! we had a wonderful time and would recommend this vacation and rental company to anyone!!

If you have kids between 4-9 years old, be sure to take a day to visit Legoland. We had such a blast and our 5 year old daughter is still talking about the day almost a year later. The park is clean, friendly, and relatively uncrowded. if you veer to the left when you enter the park you will have great rides for very young kids. Veer to the right a your old kids will have the time of their lives with lego building centers and larger rides. If it is a warm day, be sure to bring a bathing suit to enjoy the waterpark in the back of Legoland. Overall, it was a great expereince and we will be back.
Here is a great low cost and fun activity for a family with young kids… U Pick Strawberry patch. Right off of I-5 near the outlet stores there is a U-pick strawberry patch. Our kids got the biggest kick out of gathering their own strawberries. Our only challenge was trying to get them washed and paid for before they devoured them. Come prepared to get a little dirty, but your kids will get a taste of fresh produce and warm sun.
Hey all of you Southern Californians who make frequent trips to San Diego and Beach Front Only homes…..a great getaway during your stay is a visit to the world famous San Diego Zoo. But don’t just visit; become a member of the Zoological Society of San Diego. You get admission to the zoo as well as the San Diego Wild Animal Park in Escondido for an entire year. Scrips Birch aquarium is well worth the price of admission. the rare species and interesting sea life kept my kids dazzled for hours. It’s a refreshing change from the rush and crowds of Sea World and the San Diego Zoo.
Our beach vacations are really a family affair. It is my Christmans gift to my parents, children, brothers and their guests. When we are at home, we eat out alot due to hectic work schedules and rarely get to eat together as a group. So, when we vacation, we take the time to exercise our culinary talents. Almost every meal is cooked with love in the spacious and well-equipped kitchen. Finding groceries, even specilaty items, is very easy with ready access to shoppiing areas – we prefer those in Carlsbad. Somehow, chopping vegetables, peeling shrimp, and flipping pancakes while watching the panorama of waves, dolphins and seagulls, turns the mundane into magic. Meals are planned in advance to tickle the favorite fancy of every loved one’s indulgence and to travel the world with different cuisines. We all love to cook, so we all take turns to out-do each other. Whether it is Mom’s special French Toast, a clam bake, BBQ on the private beach or a spaghetti dinner, we cherish the fun we have preparing and sharing the food and conversation. A glass of wine, a cup of espresso or a cafe au lait round out the evening as the ocean waves relax our minds. My parents are in their 70’s, my kids are young adults and my husband and I are new empty-nesters, so we cherish this special time together to reflect on the past and plan for the future. The Beachfront Only experience has resulted in memories, and recipes, that will last a lifetime.
A great experience can be found on the San Diego Haunted Ghost Tour! I know what you are thinking…but think again. I, also, was hesitant to believe that I would enjoy this tour, but found it very interesting, on many levels and I think that you will find that it has something for everyone. Yes, it is a little campy to find the tourguide in period dress and looking “morbid” – but as the tour progresses, you will have to admit that it adds tremendously to the atmosphere and they really do the act with class. This is not a stuffy lecture or a run through a “haunted house” – real effort is made to engage the audience, travel in style to multiple venues throughout the city and to make the experience informative, authentic and fun. I don’t want to give away its secrets, but I will tell you that you will learn San Diego history, tour historical sites, see amazing architecture and art, get to volunteer to show your thespian talents, and maybe even get a little creeped out! Maybe you will get to see, or sense, the supernatural – but even if you don’t – you will enjoy this memorable and enjoyable tour. Believers, skeptics, young, old, dead, un-dead and YOU will enjoy it!
Our multi-generational family of 11 can’t wait to get back to the Cedros Design Center, several blocks near Del Mar with the most wonderful, unique shopping. The variety is marvelous. There are a few restaurants, but the main focus of this area is unusual goodies, creative ideas, ethnic furniture and accessories, a gift shop with fabulous books and greeting cards from companies not seen elsewhere, a darling store with goodies for the pets in your life. There is a two story shop with many booths showing the wares of different vendors. It includes hand made crafts, antique accessories, linens, Indian imports, jewelry, silly and stunning hats, interesting table top ideas, art work…….a really terrific place to get your Christmas shopping completed months in advance. We all took advantage of the relaxed location and opportunity to get rid of much of the November/December anxieties in August. There is spot, which sells various raw wood and extraordinary flitches for the hobby carpenter. We also bought quite a few very special “art” chairs and tables at this place. Our visit this coming summer will replenish our souls and nourish our artistic bent. I can’t wait to hear the grandkids calling to me from across a shop with excitement at something they have discovered. There is something for everyone at Cedros.
I recommend enjoying the genuine Mexican take-out food at Colimas, a local and VERY authentic Oceanside restaurant which has been there for many years. Definitely a low-profile no-frills little place, their extensive menu will allow a touch of the exotic to add to your enjoyment of the beautiful sunsets and ocean sounds while staying at Beachfront.
Take the Coaster instead of driving! Avoid the traffic, and instead of sitting on a freeway ramp enjoy a pleasant train ride down to San Diego where you might take in a ball game, walk around the Gaslight District or just enjoy the shopping. After an enjoyable day, hop back on the Coaster and return to Oceanside.
We drink our coffee, enjoy the beach and take advantage of lazy days just watching the pelicans fly by, the dolphins play and the many surfers braving the waters.
We love to see the beauty in San Diego. There is so much to do and see. My Children love to see the animals in the wild animal kingdom and also seaworld.
How could you be this close to the Mexico Border and not have Mexican! We highly reccomend El Callejon restaurant in Encinitas. Great family style dining on the outdoor patio and plaza. Fun Mariachi band and yummy margaritas to get you into the mood. Our daughters love to try out their conversational spainish, so they were saying Hola, Buenos Dias, and Mucha Gracias to every waiter in sight. Fortunately they found the girls charming and brought them their own Churros and ice cream. The menu is extensive and there is something for everyone. Pier View Coffee Co. was my favorite daily treat. It’s a nice walk along the beach and then only 2 blocks away. They have great lattes, plus a lender’s library of books. Simply go north out of the house and then turn right at Rotary Park…go two blocks and it’s on the corner of Pier View Way.
Inside Tip: Highly recommend Juanitas on PCH in Encinitas for authentic Mexican food. Don’t miss the carne asada. Fresh guac is always tasty. With a steady clientele of locals and surfers, you know is going to be good (and cheap!).
If you do nothing else while you are in San Diego, DO take the amtrack up to San Juan Capistrano and experience some of Southern Californias great history first hand! You can catch the train in Oceanside or Solana Beach, among other beach towns between Oceanside and San Diego. Not only is the train ride a scenic delight traveling right along the spectacular southern California coast, it makes for an enjoyable trip to chat and enjoy the people you are vacationing with. You can even grab a cup of joe and a snack! We were lucky enough to see dolphins playing in the steel blue Pacific, just fabulous!
When you arrive in San Juan Capistrano, it is just a short walk to the beautiful mission, truly one of Californias jewels. There is a wonderful self paced audio tour, and the grounds of the mission are a lovely sight to behold. When you have had your fill of history, there are many local restaurants to tempt you for lunch, and of course the village has shops to test the ladies willpower!
I highly recommend this day trip for anyone staying in one of the beautiful beachfrontonly locations in the Oceanside/Encinitas area! The perfect adventure for all ages and experience seekers of any sort!
Our group of 15 ladies had an absolute BLAST at Joe’s Crab Shack in Oceanside. What a FUN restaurant with DELICIOUS FOOD, REASONABLE PRICES, GREAT STAFF and GORGEOUS LOCATION! The menu selections are numerous (it’s not all seafood), the prices are comparable, and the food was delicious. The staff was extremely attentive and well prepared to handle a large group, even providing separate checks with no hassle, and the service was very prompt. You can’t go wrong at this place!
We ate a a walking distance restaraunt named Calypso. The place was crowded, always a good sign. They had live music which was wonderful. We had quite a large group and they accomodated us just fine. They even made items for the kids that were not on their menu. The food was different, but delicious. The sangria was the best.
The Beach Front Only condos in Oceanside are an excellent place to go and relax with your family, or in our case, for a business retreat. We brought our whole team to Oceanside for work and relaxation. We didn’t visit any of the local restaurants but the local grocery store was very helpful and gave us extra assistance to purchase food for 35 people for three days. And the kitchen had all the amenities for us to use and prepare all our meals.

My favorite part of the trip was waking up in the morning, sitting on the balcony and watching the surfers and dolphins with my cup of coffee. The hot tubs were also nice after a long day. A place to visit while in San Diego would be the Sunset Cliffs or the coast of La Jolla. Both places are excellent short trips from Oceanside and offer good photo opps!

I don’t know about you, but wherever we’re vacationing, we always try to find one of those little gems only the locals know about. Ohzen Sushi is one of those. This unobtrusive, little restaurant is tucked away inside the San Luis Rey shopping center up on Mission Avenue, a short drive east from all the Beachfront Only Properties. You’ll be met at the door by the owners Jennifer and “Master” Jay who is an artist when it comes to sushi. They treat everyone like family and you will feel instantly welcomed. The selection is fantastic and if sushi isn’t your thing, then by all means be sure to order the Spanish mackerel or ahi — always fresh, always delicious. Don’t leave Oceanside without trying this place. If I had more than two thumbs, they’d all be up!
• SAN DIEGO ATTRACTION:
I know you’re gonna think I’m really crazy, but we spent the best day one year visiting the San Diego Zoo. So, you’re probably thinking, “What’s so crazy ’bout that?” Looks like a lot of people have already suggested this. Well to get there and back we didn’t drive, but instead opted to take the train and public transportation. Actually in a lot of ways, the trip there and back was more fun than the actual zoo experience. Anyway, if you’re the adventurous type and relish the opportunity to sit back and view some beautiful California coastal landscape in lieu of fighting traffic along the 5 — here’s what you do with some links to help you along the way.

The train will take you for a wonderful ride along the coast through Carlsbad, Encinitas, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Solana Beach, Del Mar and La Jolla. You’ll pass by hidden surfing spots, and travel across various water inlets and washes, through Torre Pines State Reserve to the beautiful vista of San Diego Harbor. You’ll see things you’d never see if you drove.
You get off at the San Diego Station (Santa Fe Depot) at 1050 Kettner Blvd. (Pretty much everyone gets off here.) After leaving the station, take a short stroll up W. B Street where you’ll catch the #7 — 54th & University bus (yes, bus) at the corner of W. B and State Street. The bus will take you through the city (sort of like your own personal tour) then up the hill to the zoo. It’s a beautiful and interesting ride that’ll take approximately 20 minutes. To come back, just do it in reverse. Simple, different and fun. There’ll be lots of photo opportunities you ordinarily would have missed going the traditional way.

If you’ve got little kids, this trip might not be for you. But if you’re young and in love (like us) it might be the most memorable experience of your vacation!
• LOCAL INSIDER TIPS:
I can be really dumb sometimes, but this took the cake one year in Oceanside. I don’t like to wear my contacts when I’m at the beach, so I use those little (don’t laugh) clip-on deals on my eyeglasses. Well, as I was frolicking in the surf one year, a big wave came by and tore the glasses right off my nose. Well, they were the only pair I had and it was the first day of the vacation. Inside that day’s newspaper, I saw a Sears Optical flyer offering 2 for 1 eyeglasses at the Carlsbad Plaza Camino Real Shopping Center just a short drive south from where we were staying. I made an eye exam appointment for that afternoon, picked out two frames and had them delivered to my home address. I was told I could have them fitted at my local Sears when we got home. A week later, there they were and they fit like a dream without any adjustment. Who knew? Our Tip: One should always make a point of locating a variety of services in the area immediately upon arrival in the event something unexpected happens. If you brought your pet with you, look up a local vet. In case you get hurt or sick unexpectedly, it would be a good idea to have emergency numbers of local medical facilities or dentist. And that reminds me, the last time we vacationed, I took along a copy of each of our Advanced Medical Directives (like a living will). Morbid, I know — but you never know, do you. Also, I kept information in my purse that had a note with the phone number for our Beachfront Only rep in the event something happened. This way, authorities could contact them directly and would immediately know where we were staying in Oceanside. Very helpful, especially if you have some furry or feathery family members waiting for you back in the rental.
A home on the beach for one week a year is just not enough. The winters are just as great as the summers. When I leave my world to stay on the beach in the winter with my family we go to relax; no schedule, no appointments. Sit, read, watch movies, take walk, play board games, watch the sunset and have nothing to do. This my idea of a winter retreat. The summers are great I must admit but do not underestimate the winter on the beach. I live 30 min from Sunrise Ski resort in Arizona, and I preffer Oceanside.
A Day in La Jolla. First Kayak, then eat, then see the beached harbor seals at the Children’s Pool.
Kayaking in La Jolla cove by yourself or with an experienced kayak guide is the best way to spend a morning or afternoon! Rent 1 or 2 man kayaks for an hour and a half excursion. We kayaked out to the kelp beds and saw sea lions and dolphins hanging out fishing! If the tides and swells are just right you can kayak through the caves. After you’re done kayaking you can eat at George’s at the Cove which overlooks the coves and beaches in La Jolla. There are three levels of dining. I recommend the top level which is outdoor dining on the roof overlooking the bay. There are heaters if you get cold. Harbor Seals. Go and see the harbor seals beached at what’s called the Children’s Pool. The beach is off limits to people but you can walk very close to the seals on the adjacent jetty and the stairs go right down on to the beach but there are always people there to make sure nobody hurts or disturbs the seals, especially during pupping season in the Spring. A Day at Oceanside Harbor!
We rented paddle boats and paddled around the harbor. It was great fun and great exercise! The cost is $15 an hour for 2-seaters or $25 for 4-seaters. They also rent jet skis, power boats, electric boats, and sail boats. It’s a fun way to spend a few hours soaking up the sun. Oceanside Boat Rentals at 722-0028. Next, head to the sand and have a bonfire!
Bonfire on the Beach! The beach at the harbor between the north and south jetties have fire pits. It’s great fun to get some wood, graham crackers, marshmellows and chocolate from Albertsons and have a bonfire on the beach at sunset! Have dinner at one of the many fines restaurants in the Harbor first, and head to the beach for dessert!
Our stay in Beachfront Only’s Oceanside Condo was outstanding. From the weather to the accomodations it couldn’t have made for a nicer family get together. We surfed, played in the sand, flew kites,BBQ’d and shopped all the local amenities. Our day trips to Sea World and San Diego were great as well. But by far the coolest was watching the dolphins playing in the surf from the living room windows each evening…. lots of ooohhs and awwws!! I’d recommend Beachfront Only to anyone.
Once in a blue moon it is possible to get all of my family (parents, 5 brothers and sisters and their significant others) together. For my parents 40th anniversary we made a point of it. We rented a great place in Encinitas and had an incredible time. During this stay we managed to wrangle everyone together and went to a San Diego Padres game at Peoria Stadium. Since most of us were baseball fans and the few that weren’t still managed to find this a spectacular outing. The stadium was beautiful and the parking was the easiest to get to of all the stadiums I have ever visited. Even the hot dogs are great, although the variety of food choices are enough to leave you stuffed for days. We were able to buy our tickets on line and print them out (you can even prepay for parking). Once we got to the gate they used the bar code and we were in. You can even take the Coaster Train!!! I would recommend this to anyone looking for a truly family friendly outing.
It was awesome to wake up at 950 Neptune every morning with the sun shining and surfers riding the waves — and nothing better than to end your day when the congregation gathers at the end of the day to see the sun sink into the Pacific. Another recommendation – 454Tattoo – my daughter and I got inked! I am celebrating that birthday that puts me on the down side of the hill this year — and never thought I’d get a tattoo. But every day when I look at the tiny heart with two linked rosebuds (one for each of my daughters), I smile and think of our Encinitas vacation – Thank you BeachFrontOnly!
Tidepools at Cabrillo National Monument. We went to see Cabrillo National Monument and were fascinated with all the history and the 150 year old lighthouse, but the most surprising and fascinating part of our trip was to the little known tidepools on the west side of the park. Make sure the tide is low before you go. It’s best to go in winter. These tidepools are some of the best preserved rocky inter-tidal areas open to the public. They are nothing short of amazing. Wear water shoes and wander through the tidepools for hours! There is usually a park ranger available to answer questions. We had an amazing day at a National Monument we knew very little about. I highly recommend the trip.

Attention all Golfers!
Our home town is Victoria BC, Canada so our expectations are above the line when it comes to golfing and we were pleasantly surprised with the JC Golf courses: http://www.jcgolf.com. Before you book a tee time from the JC site or on any other golf course, in the area, try this out: http://www.click4teetimes.com. We saved a substantial amount of vacation dollars booking through the click4times site. Twin Oaks and Encinata Ranch proved to be both scenic and challanging.
San Diego is the best place we have found, for an all around Golf Vacation.
Oh! And here is the best tidbit of all: The US Open is being held at Torey Pines and the course is a must see. We stopped by on our way back from Seaworld. It was about 4 pm on March 1, 2008. Feeling a little brave we asked the Starter if there were any Tee Times available? The unexpected answer??? The starter says: “Just Walk on…no charge…..” We thought we had died and gone to heaven…you should see the pics!!! Bring your laptop so you can book tee times on click4teetimes,,,be sure to write down your confirmation number if you do not have a printer. HAPPY GOLFING.
What to do on a Sunday Morning? Do you like Gospel Blues Music? The House of Blues Sunday Gospel Brunch is a must do. Located at 1055 5th avenue, downtown San Diego. The fun begins at 11 am and is finished by 1 pm. The buffet is jam packed full with mouth watering food. A bit of all kinds….South Western is featured. Be prepared to be awakened by the Gospel Singers..they will get you up out of your seats to sing, exercise and dance. It is rip roaring fun. You must get your ticket in advance. Parking Downtown on Sunday is free. Have Fun!
Okay! Okay! You came to San Diego so you have to see the Zoo and Sea World! Have you ever seen a trained Duck? Ha! Be sure to got to the Petland show in Seaworld!! WHO LET THE DOGS OUT??? You won’t forget it!
Attention all Music Buffs! The Museum of Making Music is a Must See. Even if you don’t care for Museums! Learn about the History while you journey through the interactive displays. 450 instruments and samples of the most memorable tunes. The icing on the cake? There is a music room and you get to play any of the instruments you choose. Location: 5790 Armada Dr., Carlsbad. Be prepared to stay awhile.
Best Eats and Entertainment. We enjoyed the food at Coyotes in Carlsbad. Sitting outside around a central fireplace eating good southwestern food, being entertained by a great band and dancing. Super way to spend an evening. We had a great holiday. Our very best online find was: BEACHFRONT ONLY VACATIONS. We could see the Surfers on the waves drinking our morning coffee in bed
It doesn’t get much better. We will be back!
I have rented at Oceanside for the past two years and at Carlsbad for years before that. My favorite places for breakfast are the Beach Break on Carlsbad Ave in Oceanside and the Daily News Cafe also on Carlsbad Ave but in the heart of Carlsbad. Both serve good, home cooked meals and make rich coffee. The lines can be long, especially on weekends, so either visit during the week or later in the day. I believe both serve breakfast all day. Both are close to the ocean and have relaxing atmospheres. Prices are reasonable at both and the food is yummy. Try the specials.
My stay in Oceanside was spectacular, during my stay I happened to cruise down PCH, right into Carlsbad. The village will remind you of famous Carmel, the quaintness is breathtaking. The city has done a great job of providing various shops and eateries. Just stopping for coffee across the street from the ocean is a relaxing pleasure. The streets are quiet and easy to walk, the trees have a life of their own. Thanks for providing a beautiful oceanfront home within a distance of such wonderful sightseeing options. Ocean Front Only is all I will ever use in finding my vacation stay.
My family and I have been taking our vacation for the last six years in Oceanside, and always in a beachfront home. We have had many memorable times, from Grunion running to shopping and also hours of playing “Over the line” with all of our nieghbors and familys. We have also rented jet skis in the harbor and admired the beatiful boats. Our favorite place to eat at is Coyotes Resturant in Carlsbad. We never miss a Padre’s game, this is so convenient no driving or worring about parking just hop on the train and spend the day in Gas light district in Downtown San Diego. We will allways love San Diego!!!

JOURNAL ENTRY 1/3/08: INSPIRATIONAL DAY IN OCEANSIDE!
This is the first day of our vacation and we are up in time to do some THAI CHI on the beach at sunrise! We then walked to Pier View Way and Tremont to enjoy mingling with the locals at the Thursday morning MAINSTREET MARKET. This CERTIFIED FARMERS MARKET has a sumptuous choice of farm fresh, organically grown produce and a glorious selection of homegrown flowers. Our breakfast consisted of a mouth watering, diverse selection of prepared foods. It was really inspiring to browse and shop the many booths exhibiting works of local artists.
We then drove out Mission Ave. about five mile east of Hwy. 5 to visit MISSION SAN LUIS REY de FRANCIA, the largest of the California Missions. The expansiveness of the architecture, the extraordinary treasures held within and the peaceful, inspirational surroundings made this a very special stop.
On the way back from the mission we nearly missed the Mesa Drive turnoff for the ROSICRUCIAN FELLOWSHIP INTERNATIONAL HEADQUARTERS. It is located on a bluff with a very dramatic view of the valley. We knew that the Fellowship’s goal is to unite Christianity with science and we were looking forward to this visit with a great deal of curiosity. We attended one of the two daily inspirational services offerred to visitors; spent time in the bookstore and then thoroughly enjoyed walking the many pathways around this very special sanctuary.
We had to hurry to make it to the PRINCE OF PEACE ABBEY, a Benedictine Monestary, in time to hear the Monks chanting during 5:00 Vespars. The Abbey sits on a bluff overlooking the San Luis Rey River Valley and the ocean….a breathtaking view and an inspiring service!
Back at our Pacific St. Bungalow just as the sun set, we savored our dinner of organic fruit and vegetables; meditated doing YOGA on our deck and reflected upon the many inspirational moments in our day. With those thoughts and the sound of the pounding surf outside our sliding doors, I think we will sleep well tonight!

Hands down, Harbor Fish & Chips is my absolute favorite spot to get my eat on in Oceanside! I have had my fair share of authentic fish ‘n chips and I must say that Harbors’ blows them all right out of the bloody water, mate! Big pieces of fresh Alaskan Cod battered and fried to juicy perfection, with ‘chips’ that are out of this world! If you are looking to kick back and relax, sip on a cold, frosty bev or just simply pop in to eat some of the best fish ‘n chips this side of the ocean, Harbor F&C is your ideal destination. Sit outside and enjoy the great views of the harbor. Or perhaps share a scrumptious plate of the fried zucchini with a pal, or indulge in a cup of their fantastic clam chowder. The locals can’t seem to get enough of their famous cole slaw, either, so be sure to try it for yourself so you can find out what all the hype is about! Whether you are taking the kids out for a dinner or flying solo during lunch hour, you can’t go wrong with this place – it definitely floats my boat!
If you are staying at one of the great beach front homes in Encinitas, and want to keep up your workout routine so you keep up with the hard bodies you see on the beach, head over to the Family Fitness Gym on Santa Fe Avenue. The facility is well run, very clean, and the staff is very friendly. If you are not a Family Fitness member, the gym is happy to offer you a one-week membership for very low cost. One year they gave me the one-week membership for free simply because I made a donation to the U.S. Olympic team. This is s a great way to stay in shape and have fun while you are on vacation.
I have been vacationing in San Diego for 27 years but for the last three summers I have enjoyed staying at Beach Front Only properties. The condos are wonderful, staff is great, beach is clean, quiet and family oriented. No need to do much except enjoy, but if you are in the mood for wandering, here are some of my many recommendations.
* Del Mar Race Track- Events/ car shows/dog shows/ conventions/ concerts and all kinds of events happening through the year. Opening day at the Races is in July 2008
Take the surfliner coaster from practially any location, get picked up by a double decker roofless bus, with a ukele playing bus driver and be dropped off right at the entrance. Fridays have free concerts after the races.
* Hot Air Baloon rides in Del Mar at sunrise and sunset!
Encinitas/Luecadia:
* Self Realization Center Koi Garden, great views, very peacful, located on the 101
* The Potato Shack, great food and loads of it, for a good price, and they have manhole pancakes!
* Swami’s Cafe…. named after the famous surf spot across the street. Organic, delicious, exotic healthy food with garden like outdoor seating! (Definitely check the surf spot out – great views)
*Cardiff Dog Beach….amazingly enough hardly anybody here, depending on what time you go, you may have the beach to yourself, fun friendly people, if there are any, and friendly dogs. All dogs are on leash. At the south end of the beach there are tide pools with all kinds of sea animals to check out!
* Las Olas- Fantastic mexican seafood, very happening place, always busy, but fun atmostphere and you can look at the ocean from there. Located on the 101 accross from Cardiff Beach.
* D-Street Bar and Grill, a flat screenTVwith surfing videos, sports and videos playing every where you look, usually have live music on the weekends, or at least a DJfor dancing, nice big booths availble if you get there before 8:00 p.m. Really delicious food.
*101 Bizare every Saturday & Sunday on the 101 just south of Encinitas Blvd. Fun stuff.
* Encinitas/ Luecadia Farmer’s market every Saturday
* Art Gallerys- There are at least 3 art gallerys on the 101 in Encinitas, easy to spot.
* 101 Cafe – great personalities will be serving you, great shakes/w burgers and fries…total diner atmosphere!
*Juanita’s- Biggest, best and cheapest burritos around, open until 3:00 a.m. Local favorite, usually a line out the door, but they’re fast so do not be deterred! Located on the 101 in between Luecadia Blvd. and Encinitas Blvd.
*La Especial Del Norte- Best Tortilla soup in San Diego located just south of Luecadia Blvd. on the 101.
* The Luecadian, local dive bar, feels like you are in the bottom of a pirate ship, several pool tables, cheap cocktails, usually have some sort of live music, and definitely great people watching! Located on the 101 just south of La Costa Blvd.
* Leucadia Donut Shop…Best donut you will ever have…but better get there early or else there will only be scraps left….local favorite! Worth the drive and the calories. You always get something free with your order. Located on the 101 just south of La Costa Blvd.
Carlsbad:
Downtown Carlsbad has great gems and a very comfortable atmosphere!
* Dinis Restaurant & Bar with ocean view, delicous meals, in the restaurant, with/ indoor outdoor seating, and a fun and fiesty bar with awesome bar food, particularly the wings…gets packed with people of all ages! Located on the 101 just south of Carlsbad Village Dr.
*Carlsbad Farmer’s Market Saturdays between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Flowers, local organic produce, a homemade fudge stand, hand made jewlery, awesome tamales, and fresh baked specialty breads. This is a quaint local place to find some great stuff.
*Ocean House on the 101 and Carlsbad Village Drive- Live music from local bands and later on in the evening dancing.
* Tai Show- Best sushi around
* The Coyote just below Tai Show – Kareoke, dancing, fire pits and fun for all ages!
*Peabody’s- Mello dive bar, with great food and cheap cocktails. Sunday’s they have a build your own Bloody Mary bar with every fixin you could imagine only for $3
* Tom Giblin’s Irish Pub on Grand – reat times , good people, authentic Irish food and the staff is primarily from Ireland as well. Live Irish music on Friday nights.
*Pollos Maria- Great food, fire pits, off the beaten path, not ever too busy, and super fast. They have beer as well, but it is not a bar.
*Just walk the boardwalk……..lots to see….on weekend early evenings at the north end there are usually interesting people/groups to watch such as the bubble lady or the percussion band or the man with the exotic birds – never know who will show up…great place to watch the sun set – you might just see the “green light” as the sun dips into the horizon.
Oceanside:
* Beach Break Cafe, awesome Mom and Pop breakfast joint, super busy all the time, but delicious food, well worth the wait. Make sure to check out the bathroom…it’s quite a site to see! Located on the 101 just north of Carlsbad.
*101 Cafe in Oceanside…….old school diner, historic, great food.

I was a bit sceptical as I am a travel consultant and I know that “everyone’s” website looks great, but when you get there, it isn’t always what you expected! But Beachfront Only lived up to the expectations! Our condo was right on the beach and our grandchildren loved it!!! We really enjoyed our stay and found great places to eat, when we weren’t BBQing on the patio! I highly suggest their properties!
Wow, what a week! Initally, I booked our trip and intended to stay a the property located at 835 S. Pacific. However, after settling in and unpacking the groceries, we noticed a gas odor in the unit. We called and informed Beachfront Only we were instructed to vacate the unit ASAP (evidently, the service order earlier that week to fix the gas hadn’t been completed.) So, unfortunately, or shall I say forrtunately, we packed our bags and left. Well, there the four of us stood, (my husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law and me) in a parking lot, by our rental car, thousands of miles from home and nowhere to stay. Uncertaintly as to where we’d be housed the rest of our vacation, we received a phone call from Beachfront Only staff member (Diwanda sp??) advising us to relocate to property approx. 4 blocks north ofwhere we were. When we arrived there, the owners had decided to stay, so obviously, we couldn’t. Things were going down hill, but we received another call from Diwanda (I apologize if this is wrong) and she asked that we go to 813 B S. Pacific. Well, need I say more? The property was amazing. All of us looked at each other and thought, can we really be staying in this luxorious condo? From the comfortable decor, to the jacuzzi on the patio, to the awesome patio furniture and personal grill and gorgious kitchen. Everything was absolutley awesome! We truly needed this Incredible get away. The privacy was truly amazing and the sunsets were a priceless bonus! Relaxation was exactly what the doctor orderd and that is what we did.
As far as helpful tools, the information binder on the island was a tremendously beneficial. We were able to easily obtain Sunday church services, visits to local stores, area restaurants and local attractions by utilizing this valuable book.
Food, other than cooking out on the patio, Anita’s was our favorite restaurant in Oceanside. Great authentic Mexican food….delicious!
Area attractions, since my mother-in-law doesn’t walk easily, so we drove all over the city and enjoyed the sites. However, my husband and I loved spending time walking the beach along the pacific. HIs first experience doing this.
Thank you for making our week so enjoyable. We hope to come back with more of the family sometime soon. The staff at Beachfront Only did an amazing job in coming to our resuce in our time of need and making sure we had a fabulous place to stay in Oceanside. We appreciated your hard work and compassion in seeing that all of us were taken care of. Kuddo’s to all of you! We hope to do business with you again.

Two summers ago we stayed at 950 Neptune and wow, what a gorgeous house this was. The sunsets on the deck, over looking the the ocean up on the cliff were magnificent every single night. Let’s not forget to mention the putting green right off the deck. Gave us a chance to brush up before teeing off.
All the kids walked down to the beach and “chillaxed” the day away, skim boarding (they bought the board at the Progression Surf Shop down the hill), boogie boarding you name it. We frequented the local hispanic market down on Leucadia for all the food we didn’t bring with us.
The wives loved the Farmer’s Market and the men thoroughly enjoyed playing golf at Encinitas Ranch… Beautiful course. Would definitely play again if we had the chance.
All in all, to quote your Governor… “We’ll Be Back”

beach house. It was the funnest time my 15 member family
has efer experienced. The property is located so central that it
takes 15 to 25 minutes to get to all the amusement parks.
Great view of the sunset, and great beach for gathering
sea shells for the grand kids. I recomend BeachFront Only
properties to anyone. In fact we have all ready booked for
next year.
