All the photos are worthy of a votie. But in all fairness, the judging should not be based on how many votes one gets. Otherwise, I could round up all my friends and family to log on and vote for one of three of my family photo entries.

We think you have a completely valid point, and that is why we stated “based on comments / votes / etc, and the opinion of our staff“. Also, in terms and conditions it states “The winner of the contest will be solely up to the discretion of Beachfront Only. Our decision however will be based on comments and votes left by participants.” In other words, the winner will not be determined by who has the most votes posted.

Victoria took this photo of my son in Oceanside when she came to visit us for our wedding. She is my Big Sister from the Big Brothers Big Sisters program and came out a week early to help me plan the wedding. She also treated us to a condo for our honeymoon night. So, I’d love to see it come back to her by winning the contest! Seriously, though, I was very moved when she emailed me the photo. She captured beautifully that magical moment of discovery. I love how she got down at eye level with Phoenix (my son). I also love the big footprints around him like he’s following in someone’s steps. And, of course I like that she managed to get our pier in the shot! I’ve included a link to our wedding blog so you can see pictures from the ceremony at the gazebo near the pier. Most of the images are very well rendered, but I am especially intrigued by “Discovering the Beach” since not only is it well-composed and combines flash with ambient afternoon sunlight for a perfectly well lit image, it has that “decisive moment” quality that I think Cartier-Bresson would appreciate.

I wonder what that cute little toddler is thinking?
